Chemical Effects on LEarning Disabilities

Imagine for a moment being a student sitting in a first grade classroom. One of your classmates is reading aloud. He is slowly sounding out an unfamiliar word. Think about the number of skills that he must master to perform this simple task. His brain must send many signals to allow him to recognize the twenty- six letters of the alphabet and their phonetic sounds. He must also be able to filter out all distractions around him like you fidgeting behind him or someone talking in the hallway. All of his attention must be focused on the page and the words that he is trying to read.   Given the size of this task, it seems almost impossible for this child to be able to master it. Sometimes, however a child may not master a task like this, because he didn't master the skill of reading or writing at age 6, as expected or at seven or ten or even twelve or fifteen. When this happens, reading or writing problems may not be the only reason for a child's failure. Today I will be talking to you about chemicals that may cause learning disabilities.
The term learning disability refers not to a single disorder but to a wide range of problems. Learning disabilities often impair a person's ability to read or write. Sometimes people with learning disabilities have mental disorders or are slow to develop motor skills. Statistics show that over forty percent of the world's population suffers from some kind of learning disability. Recent scientific information shows that an unborn child is more vulnerable to developing neurological damage during pregnancy, than previous studies have shown. The human brain grows at a rate of over 4000 cells per second in the fourth week of pregnancy. The large number of chemicals found in the environment can weaken or even damage the brain's development process. The effect of exposure to these chemicals can, in later years, become visible as learning disabilities.
Minimal Amounts of knowledge is known about what exactly causes learning disabilities. It...
