Chevron, a world renowned company, provides energy from oil and natural gas for human consumption on a global scale.   Chevron’s reach stemmed from a rich history that started in Pico Canyon where the discovery of oil in 1879 laid the foundations for the company as we know it today.   The company started out as Pacific Coast Oil Company then became Standard Oil of California and subsequently Chevron after they acquired Gulf Oil Corporation in 1984.   The business of oil is the most lucrative in an industrialized world, and Chevron is one of a handful of companies at the forefront navigating the energy vessel.   Currently the world’s demand for energy seems insatiable and energy companies must find alternative sources to meet the demand and provide diversity in energy supplies.   Energy companies face major obstacles in today’s world like the rising concerns of global climate change, foreign oil dependency, and rising commodity prices.   Chevron has proposed to upgrade their outdated refineries and to harness the nation’s largest unexploited sources of renewable energy to combat demand and ease the concerns of consumers but they are still incapable of being environmentally friendly.
According to Chevron, by the year 2030 energy consumption will rise above 50 percent worldwide.   The drive behind the demand is an ever increasing population of humanity which has added pressure on the supplies of energy.   Countries such as China and India are experiencing massive industrialization and an increase in population has greatly impacted energy issues.   To meet the ever increasing demand, Chevron has commit to finding more sources of oil and gas and to the development of alternative energy.   Apparently, expanding exploration and production for more oil and gas around the globe could only result in adding to the global warming phenomenon which can be disastrous for the planet and humankind.   Chevron’s base in the city of Richmond is part of...
