Specific Purpose: By the end of the speech the audience will agree that children should be tried in Juvenile court rather than adult courts.

Introduction
In the united states children are treated as different from adults, except when it comes to criminal law. Most people would assume that young children who commit crimes are handled through the states juvenile justice system. Unfortunately, such a belief is mistaken.
The numbers along with the sentencing of juveniles in adult court may alarm you. This is a terrible public policy. Children whoo are onvicted and sentenced as adults are much more likely to become violent offenders and return to jail later on.
Having watched a younger cousin get abused by the adult justice system I have a keen interest in juveniles and the justice system.
I ropose that the justice system reinforce laws, among other things, having a set age when a child is considered an adult.
Today I will show you the problem without our system and how it affects all of us. Ive enclosed what I believe is a simple and affective solution to this problem.

  I. Close your eyes for a minute and take yourself back to the age 11. Most of you were probably in the 5th grade or so. Now just think for a second on what was your idea of a good time. Think about your maturity level and your perception of real life scenarios. I don’t know about you but I still believed wrestling was real….
  A. The truth is that all of us probably had trouble rationalizing, channeling our emotions and controlling our tempers during adolescence. For some of us its likely that our behavior could’ve even been considered criminal.
