China & the United States
In today’s turbulent world of political and economic powers, I believe that of the many nations on the face of the planet, we should focus our attention on the growing country of the People’s Republic of China.   While it isn’t the most alarming threat to our country today (as far as the War on Terrorism is concerned), we should pay attention to China’s newly developing “powerhouse” economy and military.   As the current economic and military leader of the world, we should consider the possibility that one day our country may be matched, or even surpassed, by one such as that of China, which in turn may hinder our interests in the world militarily, economically, and socially.   Understanding this country is key to dealing with this country and to preserving our existence as a power player in the future of the world.   To understand the country of China, we must look into its history, its status as of today, and its relationship with the United States.
China today is one of the few remaining Communist nations in a world which is increasingly becoming democratic.   In addition, it has the largest population of any country which also boasts the world’s largest army.   In spite of its vast array of resources, China would not play a major role in the world’s economy until the late twentieth century.   However, today China has one of the world’s fastest growing economies which is predicted in the near future to rival that of other industrialized countries such as Japan and the United States.   Its culture is one comprised of a rich history and dates back thousands of years to the Shang Dynasty around the sixteenth century B.C.   The Chinese are very imperial-like people, who believe in the single state of China, very outspoken with non-Chinese.   In The New Chinese Empire, by Ross Terrill, Terrill claims that the Chinese state seeks to maintain order, aware of what it does not want than what it does want.   China has created a...
