Chinese Workers

This essay is about how the Chinese economy is changing in relation to employment. The younger generations of Chinese are more educated and more informed of their rights as workers. Due to a smaller population of younger workers, China is now experiencing a shortage of labor. The article explains that the young Chinese are less tolerant of unsafe, low paying work. In essence, their education has prompted employers to pay more and provide a better working environment. The article interviews young adults and gets their feedback on their current employment status.
The reason for the workers behavior is the fact that they are more educated. The younger generation has been exposed to a more western standard of living. This type of lifestyle usually requires more money and better working conditions. The young adults today in China have been going on strike for such companies as Honda and Toyota. These strikes ended when the employees were paid more money. China’s cheap labor supply is quickly becoming a thing of the past due to all these conditions. Better wages, safer working conditions, less stressful jobs are all factors that have made this demographic more demanding than their parents were.
The younger generation is spending their money rather than saving it. They don’t want to work as farmers as their parents do. Staying outside all day on the farm is backbreaking labor compared to some of these jobs in factories. This is a secondary reason why the workers are behaving like this. Their parents have no choice but to farm for a living. The younger generation can easily switch jobs if they are unhappy with the position they are currently in. In a sense they are more “spoiled” then their parents are. They have greater freedom in what they do with their lives as opposed to the generations before them. They want a city lifestyle as opposed to a suburban or country lifestyle.
I believe that the employee-employer relationship will only improve in the future....
