    After the “Cold War” the majority of the American government and citizens took a stance against a Communist political government, with whom their former ally, the Soviet Union, were staunch supporters.   There was already mistrust between the nations and as time passed the differences between their beliefs, attitudes, and actions caused the countries to become strained and then hateful.   After the recent cold war many countries could not or would not fight so soon and Stalin saw opportunity in a conquest without war. Stalin tried to infuse his communistic views throughout the world and many Americans stood against everything he stood for.

    Countries all across the world became suspicious and fearful of each other, worrying about who would obtain the most economic and military influence and control. Although there was no war, countries began turning on each other and putting their efforts in thwarting each other in any way possible.

    Many policies and practices were passed during these years, as the government tried to tighten the reigns on their country to ensure that information wasn’t leaked and their civilians were loyal. Stalin’s efforts for control and Americas’ reaction caused governments to take sides either to protect themselves or their beliefs. Greece and Turkey turned to America for assistance and many European countries struggled to maintain their independence also. A policy was passed in the US to help European countries. This split the Europe into factions because those who were allies of the Soviets would not accept this help for fear that the US would dominate their economies, and those who were not allies of the Soviets were struggling financially and afraid of Soviet invasion accepted Americas help.
