Challenges of a Paper

There are many challenges that could arise when writing a paper. The three I struggle most with are; choosing a thesis statement for my paper, managing my time/organizing my paper, and making sure that I am using correct grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation. It is essential that my thesis statement be strong and clear so as to convey the main point of my essay. My time management skills must be improved to avoid procrastination and writers block. Effectively managing my time will also allow for a well-organized and easy to follow paper. The most difficult challenge that may arise for me is grammar and punctuation issues. Having a paper that is littered with fragmented sentences, run-ons, and improper punctuation sets a poor foundation for the reader to understand what I have written. Using incorrect grammar makes me look unprofessional and gives a bad impression; some may think that my work is sloppy or illegible. Sentence structure is also an important aspect of my writing, to be aware of because the reader is not able to hear the tone of my voice while reading. If I cannot manage or deal with these challenges then I will lose creditability as a writer.

The use of a few simple strategies can help me to overcome writing challenges and can assist me in developing a well written paper. I will use skills that I acquired in my first writing class to create some of these strategies. To write a strong thesis statement, I need to focus on a central idea. I need to build my thesis statement off of a controlling idea and voice my opinion.   While constructing my thesis I will need to make sure that it meets the following criteria: specificity, precision, ability to be argued and demonstrated, forcefulness, and confidence. To assist myself in better time management, I will use a day planer. This will allow me to set aside specific times to work on my paper.
