The cites of Houston and Detroit
Over the last five years these cities have been rated in the top ten in crime rates for all cites in the United States. Houston and Detroit have much more in common then just a high crime rate such as blue collar cities, music, and outdoorsmen. As much as they have in common they have just as many differences like the race of people, the weather, and the attitude of the cities. I have lived half of my life in both cites. I have family to this day in both cities. I feel that it will be easy for me to compare and contrat Houston and Detroit.
Detroit is known for being a car mecia. The city was built around the automobile hence the nick name Motor City. Detroit has hard working plant and warehouse workers. They are all joined by a union. These workers work crazy shifts and hours that range to three different shifts a day, long hours, and weekends. They sweet and break their backs in these sometimes un-airconditioned plants just to put food on their families tables. Houston has just as many hard workers doing the same thing in the ship yard. The port of Houston never sleeps. The works there work the same hours as the plant worker in Detroit. They show up to work sometime in over 100 degree weather to make sure that they can also put food on their families table. Two big cities with the same blue collar worker helping support them.
Music is something that can bring families, friends, strangers, and even enemies together. It is something that unites us with smooth beats and fantastic lyrics. Country music dominates the radio airwaves here in Houston. There have been numerous country stars to make it big that have come from here. It is a staple of who Houston is and what Houston is about. The one thing that you might not realize is Detroit with all the famous Mo-Town groups that have come out of there is a huge market for country music.
