Recovery Act Make a Difference
Through July of 2010, Connecticut has been awarded over $4 billion in federal contracts, grants and loans as part of the the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These funds have helped to mitigate the impact of the recession, create jobs, and grow our local economy. On Feb. 13, 2009, Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 at the urging of President Obama, who signed it into law four days later. A direct response to the economic crisis, the Recovery Act has three immediate goals, to create new jobs and preserve existing ones, Spur economic activity and invest in long-term growth, and foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending. According to the Gallup Polls the the job market is only at 28% hiring and the economic outlook is nearly at 33% getting better. This shows how the public see the nations economy and job markets are doing thus far under this act. Americans in general support and do like the thought and intention of this act. However, they as a whole are failing to see and feel the direct and immediate effects that were first anticipated. Public and private forecasters foresee this Recovery Act still in the working in a sense. They see the potential that the act still has and know that it must be given time to see the full and long term changes that the bill will eventually make in the country. They say to have produced 2 million jobs in just the first year of the act, yet the job market still seams to be steadily decreasing. Still though, they are striving towards the goal of a new cleaner economy in the future. President Barack Obama is credited in stating that he will not be satisfied with the Recovery Act until strong jobs are created and the job loss is dropped to a fraction of what they have been in years previous.
