Crash Movie Cultural Diversity

“Crash”

    How many times have you watched a movie and said, “this cant be real life, this really doesn’t happen”. Well after watching the movie “Crash”, I have found a new found respect for directors and actors. This movie depicts real life cultural issues and stereotypes that many people face on a daily basis. It demonstrates the decisions and how sensitive and insensitive police officers are towards the people that they are entrusted to serve and protect. You also get a glimpse of politicians manipulating cultural diversities in order to further their careers. Sandra Bullock plays a role as the wife of a district attorney, Matt Dillon plays the role of an insensitive racist police officer, Don Cheadle plays a role of a detective, Thandie Newton plays the role of a white woman who is married to a black politician played by Terrance Howard. Ryan Phillipe plays the role of the rookie officer who is sensitive to other races and takes a stand towards racism within the department. Through out the entire movie, the audience is kept on their toes and witnesses different scenarios that people face in their daily lives. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss crucial elements of a multicultural society such as language barriers, diverse workforces, and stereotypes that many people face regularly and were depicted in the movie “Crash”.   These three issues are extremely important to understand and people need to be sensitive to these issues in order for us to co exist in this world.


Communication is the key in order for people to understand one another. Lack of communication or being unable to understand due to language barriers can cause confusion and in some lines of work such as law enforcement can result in deadly consequences.
