I did not know how late it was nor how long I had been asleep, but I awoke with a distinct headache.
I clambered to my feet and I wiped my eyes free of dust. Through the cracked window of the shed, I vividly saw that the garden ahead of me was layered in deep, grey disastrous smog. I could hardly see the house so I vigorously scrubbed the dirty window and by doing that I caught a splinter of glass and gave myself a large cut into my jumper.
It was only moments later after I realised where I was, I could sense a disastrous stench seeping through the shed floors. The shed had started to root due to the rain through the winter. Immediately, I clutched the nearest cloth to me not knowing it had been drenched in oil whilst I had been working on my car, earlier that day. Yet I still remained unaware of how long I had been asleep.
However all I could remember is that I had to fetch several tools from the shed and from there my mind became blank. I must have been flat on the floor for hours.
I scrabbled in the corner of the shed for a clean cloth to place over my mouth and nose.
Pushed right down into a plastic bag. I picked out several strands of fabric and placed them clenched fist over my face.
Curiously I made my way toward the car to seal up the slight oil leak on the engine. Only two steps out of the door and I fell to the floor almost losing sight of the world. The floor felt extremely cold as if it had ice all over it.
The smell was so strong that I was gasping for air. I instantly leaped to my feet and ran to the closed door of the house. Frantically I searched for the door handle and within a few seconds I was inside my home. I sealed up the gaps below my back door with whatever I could find to prevent the horrid smell entering.
For a day or two I stayed in the house thinking of a plan to get out of the village. I tried ringing family and friends who lived near by but there was no answer and worst of all, after an hour or so I started to...
