Today’s ever-changing business market is becoming more diverse and complex, thus increasing the need for critical thinkers. Critical thinking has become a required skill for many jobs. Critical thinking helps one to make effective on-the-job decisions as well generate new ideas. Critical thinking can also help one at a job interview during questions that test one’s thinking ability. One develops a healthy amount of skepticism through critical thinking allowing one to avoid situations and view all options before deciding. The ability to think clearly is essential for personal and business situations. The following paper will define critical thinking, its importance and benefits in the decision-making processes as well present examples of critical thinking.
Critical thinking is the combination of several skills. Thinking clearly and rationally as well possessing the ability to engage in independent and reflective thinking is part of critical thinking. The National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking states, Critical thinking “is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness.” Critical thinking helps one to distinguish between a variety of analysis and data to improve his or her thinking to help anticipate the consequences of one’s decisions to help make the wiser choice. Critical thinking is especially important when one realizes that there is not a clear-cut solution to many problems.
