Crjs 105 Unit 2 Db

Unit 2 DB
Professor Campbell

While researching for this topic I was surprised at how many different theories there were over the nature versus nurture debate. I would read one and find myself leaning towards that particular one and then there would be a statement that I definitely did not agree with. This proved true with every theory I explored. Parts of them I found very true and parts I definitely objected to. To me, the balance lies somewhere in the middle, just like so many other things in life.
Reading this discussion board shows me that my colleagues have gone through a lot of pain in their lives. Here I thought I was the only one! While I am not quite ready to tell my own story, I can say with my own beliefs that in most cases, criminal behavior is learned throughout one’s life and is mostly determined by the choices we make every single day. There is an exception to this rule. Truly deviant behavior such as psychopaths, pedophiles, serial killers, among many others, I believe to be born with some kind of short circuiting (layman’s terms) in their brains. This seems to be the only explanation I can find as to why there are people in the world capable of such heinous crimes. Perhaps they have too many wires going helter skelter in their minds or an abnormality of sorts. Perhaps they do not have enough wires going to the correct places. This is probably neither here nor there but I recall a professor of mine years ago when I started college-the first time around- that told our class that a man’s brain was actually born abnormal because it was bathed in testosterone when in the mother’s womb. I do not know how accurate this is, but it does explain a lot.
One thing I have always disagreed with about this subject is the fact that so many people have stated that if an individual was abused or molested as a child that there is a strong chance they will grow up to abuse others. I have found this to be mostly false, as I was a child of a capital...
