      In today’s working class society, parents find themselves obligated to leave the care of their small children in the hands of strangers. Many children under the age of three are placed in day care centers while their parents are at work. Parents trust that the employees of these establishments will care for their children. However, there are instances where child neglect takes place. Child negligence is punishable by law and parents must be aware of their rights as well as of the rights of their children. Also, daycare centers must take accountability for accidents that occur while children are under their supervision and understand the laws that protect them from unlawful prosecution. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of parents and daycare centers to ensure the safety of children.
First, according to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), negligence is defined as “failure by a caregiver to meet a child’s basic physical, emotional, medical/dental, or educational needs-or a combination thereof” (Leeb 17).   In other words, a child must be protected at all times, even if a child is accidentally injured; it is deemed negligence by the adult in charge. Thus, a child’s well being is in the hands of his caregiver who must provide him with adequate care and supervision. Moreover, Amnesty International, an organization devoted to the protection of human rights, states that children have the same rights as adults and are not to be considered “subpersons”. In...
