Debate- Dr. Frankenstein was not at fault for his monster's murders

Frankenstein, the scientist, was not at fault for the monster’s murders.

Our Points
+ Victor did not create the monster to kill. He had good intentions. “My spirits were elevated by the enchanting appearance of nature; the past was blotted from my memory, the present was tranquil, and the future gilded by bright rays of hope and anticipations of joy.” Victor was pursuing science and the creation of life.
+ The monster, however, did plan to kill. He said “I’ll be with you on your wedding night.
+ The monster killed with madness, shown by his smile as he stooped over Elizabeth’s dead body.
+ Victor chased down the monster so it would stop killing. He went to the North pole after it!

Possible Counterpoints
+ Monster had not planned to kill William; he was overcome with rage.

Counterpoints
+ Victor is not the only one who neglected him. Society as a whole did. Besides, the monster was self-thinking and had a conscience, as proved by his remorse over William’s death and after stealing food.
