Defining Race and Ethnicity

Race and Ethnicity are two different things to me. Race is more than a skin color when I think of it; you have to look at that person’s background, by saying that I mean their family. I will use myself for an example, I say that I’m black but by looking at me you know that ere if a different race in the mix some here and to find out if black or African American is my race you have to look at my mommy and daddy. Another example is a race that I had to learn the difference in middle school, Japanese and Chinese. I had a lot of friends that where Asia but they did not like to be called that they were either going to be Japanese or Chinese.
Ethnicity to me has nothing to do with race but here that person comes from. It is the neighborhood one stays or believes of that person. You are not able to label a person’s ethnicity without knowing them. As the text stated Ethnicity has to do with ones national origin. Here is American we have all these different races and ethnicities and that is what makes American American. Everyone that lives here no matter what race or ethnicity is an American because we embrace these differences for others. I being an American can’t go to Asia and live and then say I’m Asia and this is why Race and Ethnicity is important here.
