As Christians, we are supposed to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. This is very easy to do when your neighbor is a nice person. All bets are off when your neighbor is mean, nasty, and vicious. And why does my neighbor get away with treating me like that? This was the feeling I had in seventh grade when a friend of mine began being mean to me because she wanted to hang out with the eighth graders. This hurt me very much. I started to dislike this person and I often wondered how I could overcome this feeling. I eventually did. I did this by praying to God and asking Him to help me get through it. I began to realize that even though I was hurt, she was still a human being and she should be treating with dignity and respect. So I did. I began to be nice to her and she came around and started treating me better. I believe that my act of kindness made her realize that her behavior was no way to treat another human being.
Forgiveness can help us avoid the sins we promise not to commit and it can help us be more like Jesus. Jesus offers us forgiveness when we do something wrong; therefore, when we forgive people who wrong us we become more like Jesus. If Jesus and God can do we should be able to do it also. One example is the story of the Last Supper. Jesus knew that one of his disciples was going to betray Him, yet he was forgiving to him after he realized
