What Lies Beneath
Have you ever come across a weird creature of some sort? Well, I was scared out of my brain the summer I saw that green skinned, three fingered, and large headed, small bodied person the night of my thirteenth birthday. Was I still dreaming? Did I wake up to this? “Maybe I’m just seeing things,” as I pulled the covers slowly from over my head. Or, maybe I should start from the beginning of that day to recap what lead to this bizarre encounter.
Waking up that morning I felt a little odder than usual. Maybe, because I was turning thirteen for the first time. Or, it could have been the way I was sleeping the night before that put this awful feeling in my back. Anyways, when I finished making up my bed that morning I noticed a lump in the center of my sheets. I did not pay it any attention, as my mind drifted to a burning smell hovering through the air. Mother yelled, “I love you Mr. Birthday Boy,” while flying out the door.
“I love you….. too,” I replied in a lonely voice. She is always rushing to work, and I did not even get to tell her about the annoying pain in my back.
Later that day things got a bit stranger, while I was sitting downstairs in the living room flipping through channels. I came across a news alert saying, “Giant spaceships were spotted, soaring across the dark blue skies of Mississippi.” Being from a small town in Ohio, I figured it was not that big a deal. That was, intil I heard someone walking around my upstairs bathroom. It sounded as if the footsteps were made by sneaky tippy toes. I wanted to leave the living room to investigate, but it felt like I was being watched, that I should under no circumstances turn around. So I thought what any other sane person would think. That it was just some commonly weird house noises and went back to watching television.
