Serenity for a Day
Everyone has their own special place, a place of serenity. It can be a park, a favorite coffee shop, a bedroom or a spot under an old willow tree with your favorite book. Mine is sitting and walking along an almost isolated beach. This perfect portrait is where I feel the most calm, a place where I could stare forever with obligations or stress weighing down on my shoulders. Isn’t somebody always telling you what to do or how to do it? Not here, here I feel like I can’t do anything wrong. The beach is my journal and the lack of restrictions is the most appealing. The beach and its surroundings let me say what I feel and do what I say; anything goes on this serenity for a day.
As I begin my walk to my tranquility, I pass the sandy hills that more or less feel like mountains. The beach is the valley, and I feel free to look around and imagine anything. I feel as if I am enclosed in my own little world once I’ve passed through these hills. There is no one around but the seagulls crying and a few small children running around as their exposed little feet touch the cool crisp ocean water. They have no worries or a care in the world, only laughing at the jellyfish and sea creatures they torment their little siblings with. Some children run from the rolling waves like they are running from a monster. Some get their feet hit only making their fear more intense. I can’t help but laugh a little at the faces of those little ones. I glance to where the tide has begun to hit and the now forgotten sandcastles once put together and built with pride, are now distorted figures of something once so magnificent in those little eyes. As I get closer I can taste the saltiness of the water and the hotness of the sand. The smell is intense, the ocean water and the fresh breeze brings my nose alive and the scent of the seaweed is surprisingly refreshing.
I can sit for hours and watch the waves come crashing in. I push my feet in the wet, mushy sand and let it find...
