My name is Derek Woods. I live in the Union, State of Georgia. My father used to tell me many things about the United States Constitution. He told me many things about the Bill of Rights and I, myself, became its supporter. The 10th amendment says that the government cannot have power for itself, so I think the North should really stop the idea of National bank and government.
I have been a farmer for already couple of years. I think four or five. Since the Industrial Revolution started I got some land and started to grow cotton to earn money. The North is really in a big need of cotton. I don’t own any slaves, so my two sons are helping me in the field. My older son is eighteen and my younger son is sixteen. I am forty-one years old. My wife usually uses the cotton gin to separate the seeds when the cotton is fully grown. This is like a family business; we get all our living from these plantations.
We already used this very same land for every year of our cotton growing. Over these years the land has gone really bad. We can’t grow anymore cotton on our land. So now we can’t sell anything to the North and we won’t get our living. In the East of Mississippi River there are these Indians. They don’t grow any cotton, they only grow food. So their land is good and that’s what kind of land my family needs.
I heard some people say that the land they are living rightfully belongs to the State of Georgia. This means they are living on our land, the very land that many people, including my family needs. Right now there are debates going on. The United States’ Congress is thinking about what to do. For me there are two solutions the Congress can do. The first one is to change our lands with the Indians. They can grow their food on our land, the soil is good for food plantations, but not for cotton. And we can get the good soil and continue our cotton production. The second way is to move all the Indians to the west of the Mississippi River, and we get the...
