Diet

Under the root of Asian culture, we, as Asian people, usually have three big meals daily: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.   In each meal, our main dished are always cooked rice, meat, vegetables, and fruits. I think we pretty much care about the nutrients and what we eat so the menu doesn’t repeat every day. However, since I came to America, my eating habits have changed because of different culture. Although I always cooked for my family in Vietnam, I don’t feel like cooking for only myself when I live here. I think one of the reasons for almost all international students from Vietnam don’t cook a lot when we study abroad is because of laziness, another reason is because I have a lot of homework and works need to get done so we want to eat food that are ready-to-eat. Therefore, by comparing my diet and the Asian diet pyramid, it’s a huge different between them. My diet has no longer followed any rule of regime. I eat when I feel hungry or sometimes I skip meals because I don’t feel like eating which is not good for health. My mom always reminds me to buy fruits and have to eat them in order to provide more vitamins for health. I love fruits but they are really expensive in American markets. I’m still following the eating habits of Asian but in an irregular incomplete with a big amount of grains, meat, and small amount of vegetables. I will need to change my diet soon.
A Mediterranean-style diet has received significant attention in the recent years, as the rates of cardiovascular disease in many Mediterranean countries are substantially lower rates in the United States.
