Join NowThe introduction to personal computing to the masses with the implementation of a new GUI interface where the user can interact with the pc without typing in commands was a big step for the home user. I have used all three of the OS and also the early versions of DOS this was the most time consuming OS. The three major OS are Windows, Mac, and Linux. The first of these three was Windows introduced to us by Bill Gates and Tim Patterson back in the early 80’s. Tim developed a system called DOS with basic commands to navigate through a pc. Bill Gates ended up buying the DOS system and began to develop its GUI called Windows. The difference from the other two OS are that it is sold on more pc’s throughout the world and is what most people are trained on or learned to use had Windows OS. With Window’s being sold on over half the pc’s sold here in the U.S. it is a common operating system and is the most popular of the three. Windows runs on DOS and is the only of the three that does. The next most popular is Linux and is gaining ground on Windows for the applications and ease of installation. Linux is based off of UNIX and was made by a student in Finland. The major difference from the other two OS is that the Linux OS is approved upon with users in the community who use it. It has gained popularity over the years and gained a following in the internet community. It is unique because it does not come pre packaged with a GUI. The third of the three is the Macintosh OS this was the first OS to use a GUI but was introduced after Windows. The major difference in a Mac is that its security is great attacks one the system is kept to little or none at all. My choice would be a Windows computer only because of the fact that I am well versed in Windows operation and setup.
