Abstract
This paper provides information on the discrimination that the Haitian population faced both in the United States of America and other Countries. It will provide an Annotated Outline of the different areas that will be discussed throughout the paper. It will also provide a wealth of information on the problems they are facing, such as the stigma of HIV/AIDS, as well as ways in which we all can be culturally sensitive to their needs and help to eliminate the discrimination I will also discuss my cultural competencies with this population and what I have learned from this multicultural class.
Discrimination of the Haitian Population
Discrimination is defined as the treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs, rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination (Dictionary, 2011).
The United States is home to about 535,000 Haitian immigrants, which is the largest concentration in any single country of Haitians abroad. As Haiti descended into chaos following the collapse of the Duvalier dictatorship in the late 1980s, Haitians began arriving in the United States in large numbers.
