  * Select a product with which you are familiar or in which you are interested. Be sure other students have not mentioned the product. What are its product liability issues? What measures might management take to prevent these issues from arising? How might they minimize legal risk?
  * The Ford F-150 super duty is part of the F-Series, a descriptor used to cover the entire succession of Ford pickup trucks that have been in production for 60 years. Since it début in the late 50’s, the F-Series has been the most popular vehicle sold in the United States for nearly every year of the past three decades (Automotive Reference, 2009). However, as with some vehicles currently traveling America’s roads, the F150 is not without some defect.
Since their invention, air bags have saved countless lives and reduced passenger injuries. However, these devices can sometimes harm vehicle occupants given their quick inflation. The Ford F150 has been tagged with having a faulty airbag system.   This problem involves wiring inside the steering wheel becoming scraped and shorting out leading to the air bag deploying unexpectedly.   Airbags that do deploy do so with a tremendous amount of force; and if passengers are not ready to endure this impact, they could be seriously injured as a result.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received over 200 customer complaints regarding this problem and began intense negotiations with Ford that lead up to a recall.   In response, Ford states that the problem is progressive, and the air bag warning lamp will illuminate for an extended period before there is a risk of deployment.   However, According to Journal Broadcast Group (2011), “The potential for loss of vehicular control due to this malfunction poses an unreasonable risk to safety" (Ford Recalls F-150 Pickups, para. 5).
