"Do the Ends Justify the Means?"

      The phrase, “do the ends justify the means?” can be said with throughout many novels such as: Romeo and Juliet, Night, and Blood Brothers. Shakespeare's play is a love story in the medieval times. The two protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, live in a town where there are only two families, the Montague family and the Capulet family. Everyone in these two families never get along, except for Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet who have fallen in love. Night is a story about a boy named Elie’s life in the holocaust. Blood Brothers is a story about the life of a troubled teenager. These three novels, Romeo and Juliet, Night, and Blood Brothers proves how the means decided can be justified in the results.

      Romeo and Juliet shows how the tribulations of love are justified by the end of the play. One example of this is when the Friar marries Romeo and Juliet of their request, privately. This justifies the means because Romeo and Juliet had been doing whatever they can to love each other, while avoiding their parents. They fulfilled their goal by asking the friar to marry them without their parents or anyone else knowing. Their hesitant choice of asking the friar to marry them was justified in the end because they loved each other. The Montague children decided to trash an important party of the Capulet’s. Instead, for Romeo, he danced with the only daughter of the Capulets at this party. Since these families are enemies, this would be an example of the means. This example is justified when he fell in love with Juliet. The tribulations of love that Romeo and Juliet experienced were fruitful in the end.
