In our current century, baby boomers have been getting old and the younger generations have been growing, marketers see this as a plus point for them, to engage on ways to send their market information to them, but it is not as easy as they thought it would be.   Television was once a way to send information through ads to every child in the family from house to house, but now marketers are faced with a problem.   Since computers and the world wide web has been up and running, more and more people have been watching television less and less.   In the mid 1960’s with just 3 ads, marketers can reach 80% of the women in each family, marketers had control, now it is the opposite, and consumers have control.   What are changed is the people, people can do anything, they choose to buy the product or not, they’re the ones running the show.   Now, consumers are bombarded with 600 marketing messages every day and there doing a pretty good job with them too.   What changed in marketing, started with Grobe and Stephen Voltz’s experiment of the Mentos in Diet Coke.   These two guys decided to make a video where they put Mentos in diet coke and post it up on the internet for everyone else to watch.   After this video was launched, sales for the Coca-cola went up like crazy, and this started the chain of consumer generated Ads.   This is the new pure mass-media, mass-media was once related to television but it is now related to consumer generated Ads and the World wide web, also known as the Internet.   Different companies took advantage of what Grobe and Stephen showed as the first consumer generated advertising.   Companies like Sunsilk created a contest to show consumer generated ads for their shampoo, and the winner would receive $10000.   Programs like Facebook, MySpace and YouTube were excellent places to hold contests for consumer generated ads.
