Cardiovascular Disease
In recent years, medical experts have expressed the growing problem of various diseases. While most agree that the issue deserves attention, consensus dissolves around how to respond to the problem. One of the various diseases that are often invisible to its prey is called communicable diseases.
Communicable diseases are caused by microscopic organisms. They are often called contagious diseases that are transferable from one person to another. Physicians refer to these disease-causing organisms as pathogens. Pathogens that infect humans include a wide variety of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoans and parasitic worms. (Hinman, 2002 para. 5)
Bacteria travel through poor hygiene. Hand washing and is a very important factor in preventing the spread of bacteria. Viruses are found in many common illnesses such as colds or the flu. Fungi are a pathogen that can be found in molds or yeast like athlete’s feet and yeast infections. Protozoa rely on the human body to live and pass on like sexually transmitted diseases. Parasitic Worms are worm-like organisms that live and feed off living hosts, receiving nourishment and protection while disrupting their hosts nutrient absorption, causing weakness and disease. Communicable Diseases continue to be one of the most import public health problems in the US. About half of the deaths in some countries come from infectious causes. One of the most wide-spread communicable diseases is the H1N1 Virus.
The 2009 H1N1(sometimes called the swine flu) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. There is a seasonal flu vaccine to protect against seasonal flu viruses and a 2009 H1N1 vaccine to protect against the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus.
