The Dream Act: A Dream Or Reality?
The Dream Act was an American legislative proposal that was introduced to the US Senate back in 2001. The proposal has been introduced to the Senate and the House of Representatives at least four times and has not been able to pass. The most current version of the Dream Act legislative proposal was introduced this last may to the House of Representatives by its author and strong supporter Richard Durbin but it was unsuccessful. Richard Durbin is a US Senator from Illinois, he is one of the many democrats that support the Dream Act, not only is he one of the supporters but he is the chief proponent for the Dream Act, he made the legislative proposal his top priority in 2007.
The Dream Act is a legislative proposal that will give undocumented students that were brought to the US as children a path to conditional permanent residency. Conditional permanent residency will only be provided to those students that have a good moral character and have graduated from an US high school, and were brought to the US as children and also must have lived in the US for at least five consecutive years prior to the proposal being enacted. Also there are more requirements to meet in order to qualify such as for males to be registered with the Selective Service, either go to a higher education institution or join the US military. The author encourages and supports the legislative proposal; he also provides information on all the benefits the US will gain such as increased military recruitment, it will also stimulate the US economy, and much more.
The Dream Act is well organized the proposal is well written and it includes the benefits and the drawback of the proposal, so there will be no surprises. What the Dream Act claims is that, is it better for America to give the opportunity to those beneficiaries of the Dream Act than let all the money that was initially invested in the education of the alien-students go to waste, in which case...
