Drugs

Crack and Powder
Crack and cocaine are some of the world’s most powerful drugs. These two drugs bring violence, gang activity, money and even death to people. Drugs are a big business in the world today, but no drug is bigger than crack or cocaine. These drugs are cooked, transported and sold to many people in the world, which generates major income. The drug trade of cocaine has become so intense that it’s being cooked and poured into black neighborhoods across the United States. The difference of the two is the sentencing law enforcement is handing out to those getting caught with these drugs. In my opinion these drugs are segregated by race, crack for the blacks and cocaine for the whites, which results in two different extensive punishments mainly for African Americans users and dealers.
The crack epidemic started in Los Angeles during the 1980’s, mainly because it was faster (Witkin, G.   Mukenge, M). The powder was brought in by Columbians, and was flooded onto the L.A streets. The gangs (crips and bloods) distributed the drug throughout the streets and cities, even showing them how to sell the drug. By, 1982 Los Angeles hospital emergency rooms reported the nation’s greatest increase in cocaine overdoses, a 90 percent rise over the previous year according to the National Institute on drug abuse. Many users had gone from sniffing the drug to injecting or smoking it. By 1983, the Los Angeles Sentinel, the south central neighborhood community paper was reporting a problem with rock houses, where residence used for dealing crack. (Witkin, G.   Mukenge, M.) So after this untimely and fast take over, crack has stampeded into the neighborhoods of poor blacks across the United States.
