Breast Cancer is Serious
One out of eight women will develop some sort of breast cancer during her lifetime (“Breast Health”). Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among woman. Breast cancer is a disease that can be characterized by an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the breast. There are several risk factors for getting breast cancer; but the exact cause is still unknown.   A person’s age, the abnormal growth of cells, their genetics, certain genes, their hormones, and their diet can all play a role in getting breast cancer.
Consequently, a risk factor is anything that affects a person’s chance of getting a disease such as cancer. Age is the number one cause or risk factor of breast cancer. The average age of a woman who gets their first mammogram is 40, unless their mother or sister had it. Then they would start testing ten years before the cancer was found in that person. About two out of three women with invasive breast cancer are age fifty five or older when the cancer is first found. At the age of forty a woman has 1 in 217 chances of getting breast cancer. For every five years after forty the chances get higher. “Four out of five breast cancers are found in women over the age of fifty” (Lange 24). There are some cases were young woman may also get breast cancer.
As a woman gets older it increases her chances of getting breast cancer. The younger a woman is when she gets tested the more likely it is to be detected sooner. The cause is the woman’s age and the effect is being at a higher risk of getting breast cancer. Being a female by itself is a cause for breast cancer (Powell 9). Being female, the breasts are bigger and have certain glands and tissue which in turn can lead to getting breast cancer.
Additionally the gender of females alone puts them in a more likely position of getting breast cancer. Being a female as well as how old they are is the number one...
