At college Edie attracted the attention of men and women alike. She quickly established herself on the social circuit and when she turned 21 she gained access to her trust fund. Finally things were starting to look brighter for Edie. After tiring of being a college girl and yearning for more excitement Edie moved to New York. Upon moving into her grandmothers 14-room Park Avenue apartment, Edie attended a party at which she was introduced to Andy Warhol who was at the time a well regarded New York artist. Beautiful,well spoken and 'old money' Edie captivated Warhol and she was soon admitted into his inner circle. Warhol's studio known as the 'the factory' was where   artists embracing the changing culture of the '60s gathered to create underground films, music and art and was soon a place where Edie spent much of her time. In this cutting edge environment Edie's unique fashion sense blossomed, with a trust fund enabling her to purchase expensive designer clothes She would wear her grandmother's jewels with a long dress and bare feet. Opaque tights, leotards, false eyelashes and chandelier earrings became her signature pieces. Life magazine said she was “doing more for black tights then anybody since hamlet” and she appeared in Time, LIFE and Vogue between 1963 and 1965. The editor in chief of vogue called her an exemplar of the era's youth culture. Her look became the “it look” of the time and her actions were documented in many New York gossip collumns.
In 1965, Warhol cast Sedgwick as an extra in his underground film Vinyl. Infatuated with her striking appearance as much as her screen presence, he commissioned more scripts for her and she appeared in Kitchen, Poor Little Rich Girl, Beauty #2, Outer And Inner Space. Warhol dubbed her as his "Queen of The Factory" and for the next year, the pair were inseparable. Sedgwick even dyed her hair silver to match Warhol's.
