Energy Resource Challenges
The three renewable alternatives for energy presented: wind, solar, and ethanol fuel. The use of wind turbines as a source of energy would help in the conservation of the environment. The next source was solar power, which is produced through panels that convert sunlight into electric power. The third source was the use of biofuels. Biofuels are forms of gasoline and diesel made from harvest leftovers of corn and grain crops.
Maintaining the wind turbines produces a challenge as most are in remote areas because of the amount of space they require to operate. One of the challenges of using the solar power source is the amount of maintenance required for efficient operation and the cost of the equipment. The prices of the panels along with the setup costs are not affordable to most families. The biggest challenge convincing people to use alternative fuel sources is the cost associated with changing the fuel systems of older cars to accept the new fuel. Scientists, researchers, and the government are not devoting the necessary time or money to fund the research for biofuels and alternative power sources because of the current low demand for these products.
One renewable energy source not mentioned in the video was water. Hydroelectric plants use water to run the engines to create power. This source has been used for years to generate electricity. Because of shortages in some of the non- renewable energy sources like oil, coal, and natural gas, it will begin to get more expensive to produce, and the costs will be passed on to the customers. The biggest issue of using non-renewable energy is the harmful impact on the environment. Due to the low cost of production and the accepted use by consumers we will keep on using these sources until we run out.
