Termination of employment is fairly common in the current workplace. Many companies have a zero tolerance or at will policy. Employees can be fired for various reasons by his or her employer without notice. Most of the time the employee is warned that the termination may be forth coming. After receiving several warnings or going through a action plan the employee can become unemployed. The employee may have been warned several times and is still not performing up to par and that is not good. An employee is aware of the duties that his or her employee expects of him or her. The consequences of negative behaviors or negligent actions always lead to termination.
Many managers want to do the right thing and be fair to his or her employers. Managers in the present job market are faced with many dilemmas regarding employees. Employees have many issues that concern his or her personal and work life. The personal portion of the employee’s life can often consume the individual and affect the work that he or she is doing. The manager must know the best way to approach this problem. The outcome can be positive or negative based off of the answer. The manager may want to do the compassionate thing in the situation but the answer may not be the best thing for the company. In the scenerio where a mother has a sick child that needs to be picked up from school and has to decide to forfeit pay and leave work to care for the child or stay and work. The employee must approach her employeer and explain the situation and expect resolution to her problem from the manager. The managers response determines the future relationship that he or she will have with that employee from that moment on. The employee can gain a sense of trust or distrust with that manager from his or her response to his or her problem.
