What is mortality? Our understanding of it, is basically the state or condition of being subjected to death. Everything living on this earth is mortal but how we address mortality is a totally subjective issue with regard to each individual's understanding of life. In "We are Seven" by William Wordsworth, we see how just a little girl's simple thinking of life itself might be deeper than what we may think it is. The understanding can be of so many different ways when it comes to the life you've lived and the way you have been brought up.

"We are Seven" simply starts off with '--A Simple Child' these three words have already expressed the life of the eight year old - Simple. Simplicity can actually make things fall into a much deeper realm of understanding and meaning. Even if used as a metaphor, the simpler the object or imagery used, the harder to understand, and the more meaning it holds. As we know, the child leads a simple life. Being a Ballad, "We are Seven" speaks even more about the outlook of life and death, a song about death, in a different way. Carrying on from the first line of the ballad, the child "that lightly draws its breath, and feels its life in every limb." When we are filled with burden, we tend to sigh and take deep breaths too slow our pace down and clear our minds. But this child does other wise. Light breaths taken, light and happy hearted, life in every limb of her body, she knows how to enjoy life to the fullest with enthusiasm.

"We are Seven" talks about a conversation held between a man and a young girl. The speaker begins the poem with the question of what a child should know of death. As we all assume that children know little of it, and understand little of it. Mainly the first half of the ballad gives us the feeling that the little girl understands very little of death.
