ESSAY-TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
The novel “To Kill A Mockingbird” illustrates many different points of view of racism.   Long ago, when discriminating against black people was a part of everyday life, most people used very cruel words to describe them.   Black people couldn’t get jobs, and most didn’t go to school because they were not accepted by white people.   Most white people were taught to shut out black people from society.   Communicating with a black person was completely unacceptable, and interacial couples were considred to be a horrible thing.   No white person ever even thought of having a black person as a friend.   Back then, black people were viewed as the lowest class in society.
Considering the fact that blacks were the lowest class, stores, churches, and restaurants were reserved for either black or white people, never both.   The black church was an old building and it was very poor, with no hymn books or pews.   It was also used for gambling by white men on weekdays.   One man named Dolphus Raymond, who is white, married a black woman and was cast out from society.   His mixed children were considered neither black nor white since they were half of each.   No one wanted them as part of their social class.   At Finch’s landing, Francis and Scout get into a fight.   since Atticu was defending a black man, Francis called him a “nigger-lover,” and this made Scout very angry.   The word “nigger” was a terrible word commonly used by racist white people to describes blacks.   When Aunt Alexandra comes to visit, she says mean things about Calpurnia and tries to get her fired.   She doesn’t want Scout visiting Calpurnia’s house because she is black.   She feels that black people will have a bad influence on the children.   Jails were filled with black people only.   When a black man was accused of a crime, he is automatically guilty, despite any proof of innocence.
