Embezzlement by employees and managers can destroy a business. Harassment whether is sexual, Disability, Sexual Orientation or any other type of harassment by managers, employees or employer may lead to legal actions against the company. Lying or misrepresentation of a product or service by an employee may result in fines.
Obviously a business care about their managers and employee’s code of conduct and ethics, and is obvious that every firm’s goal is to maximize profits but certainly not in an unethical manner.
In 2005 HP was involved in the biggest scandal the company has ever seen. Carly Fiorina CEO of HP (from 1999 to 2005) was fired for lack of experience, “her failure can also be explained from an ethical vantage point. Fiorina has never been charged with a crime, as were many of her CEO contemporaries like John Rigas, Hank Greenberg, Dennis Kowslowski, and Martha Stewart. Yet, the story of Carly Fiorina is a cautionary tale, revealing ethical shortcomings not only on Fiorina's part but also on the part of HP board members.” (Johnson, C. 2008)
HP known for taking care of their employees with benefits like, profit sharing, medical insurance, tuition assistance and flex time was being destroyed by poor management skills and poor ethical conduct. Bill Hewlett and David Packer founders of HP “believed that the company made money because they were good to their people.” (Johnson, C. 2008) but Carly Fiorina changes the “HP Way” in her 6 year tenure.
