Introduction
The core business principles of integrity, rights, fairness, relationships, and obligations are the essential ingredients of a successful strategic planning process for ethical organizations.
Implanting ethics in strategic planning can add value to the process and strengthen the future of organizations, especially in the current environment of the expanding circle of business ethics. Ethics can be defined as “the moral principles that reflect society’s beliefs about the actions of an individual or group that are right and wrong.” (Pearce & Robinson, 2009, p. 74)
Employees have the responsibility to know what is right or wrong, perform their duties, and make decisions ethically so as to benefit the organization and the stakeholder, placing ethical principles above all types of profits.
Role of ethics and social responsibility in developing a strategic plan
Social responsibility is an essential concern for organization’s strategic decision makers because its mission statement should illustrate how the organization is willing to participate in its business environment. “Central to the idea that companies should be operated in socially responsible ways is the belief that managers will behave in an ethical manner.” (Pearce & Robinson, 2009, p. 18)
It is very challenging for organizations to become and remain ethical in the current competitive environment, especially when they are trying to stay profitable and at the same time satisfy their customers and stakeholders
Ethical believes and values that are most important to the organization should be outlined in its mission, vision, and value statements because these statements shows a clear purpose, direction, and explanation of the organization’s expected conduct.
