Assignment: Ethnic Groups and Discrimination
The ethnic group that I am considered as is African American. I considered this because I am not mixed with any other race. It is said to be that African Americans are originated from the United States. African Americans were African until we stepped foot on American soil and reproduced with white Americans. We are an ethnic group, or a sub race of the African race who originated in America but technically our race resides in Africa. African Americans migrated to The United States as early as the 1800’s. However, migration occurred mainly within the United States. By the 1900’s African Americans migrated to big cities such as New York, Chicago, and California. Colonization of free blacks was an issue in which both blacks and whites were divided. Although, there were some African Americans that supported emigration because they felt as though black Americans would never receive justice in the United States. However, there were some African Americans who felt otherwise. They believed that African Americans should stay in the United States to fight for full legal rights as American citizens. In addition, there were some whites that saw colonization as a way of getting rid of the African American nation, while the remainder felt as though the blacks Americans would be better off in Africa, where they could live free of racial discrimination. African Americans did indeed face a combination of prejudice, racism, and segregation, which became a major impact on this culture. There was a lot of prejudice between the white Americans and the African Americans. White Americans always classified blacks as human beings that should not be treated equally because of the color of their skin.
