Every Student At University Should Take a Course On Conflict Resolution

Topic: “Every student at university should be asked to take a course on conflict resolution”.
According to the article entitled, “Conflict resolution helps improve productivity” by Gopinathan Thachappilly (2009), Conflicts are not bad in themselves. In fact, it is conflict of viewpoints that often direct attention to new and improved solutions. It is when conflict management is poor that it becomes a problem. Often times we incorrectly relate to the topic of Conflict as one filled with perplexity, especially when it comes to dealing with cases of such amongst teenagers and young adults. Based on my personal research on the topic of conflict, I have come to find that there is basically only to types of conflict i.e.; Destructive conflict can result in violence, loss of friendship, or unnecessary legal bills. Cultural beliefs, such as that one should not intervene in another's fights, have also been found to promote violence. On the other hand, constructive conflict can lead to innovation, better communication and improvements in man’s status.
The option of teaching students alternative conflict resolution skills instead, is often over looked despite its greater success in achieving school safety. High profile episodes of school violence such as those in universities across the globe have increased the public's awareness and concern about violence in our schools.
However, I am a firm believer that conflict resolution skills should be a fundamental part of every schools' curriculum, and not just merely from university level.   ‘Despite its potential harm, conflict is a natural part of life. Conflicts can be as small as what you watch on television to as large as who will be the next Prime Minister.
