Evolution of Butterflies
          Butterflies have been around for hundreds of thousands of years.   They have been around ever since the Cretaceous era.   Butterflies are well known for their colorful beauty, and they have changed so much over the years.   Even though there are millions of magnificent creatures in this world, I think that graceful butterflies have one of the most interesting evolutions and changes out of all of the creatures on this earth.   In this essay, I will tell you a little bit about butterflies just so that you can picture just how beautiful and elegant they truly are.   I will also tell you about their evolution and how they have changed over time.   I will tell you why they changed and what they had to adapt to.   Everything from their size to the length of their proboscis, or tongue, has changed.
          First of all, I would like to tell you about some of the magnificent butterflies’ characteristics.   Butterflies are insects with large scaly wings, and they are as colorful as a beautiful rainbow.   They have six jointed legs, three body parts, a pair of antennas, compound eyes, and an exoskeleton.   They are covered in tiny sensory hairs. They also have a proboscis, or tongue, that they use to suck nectar out of flowers.   In case you haven’t guessed, butterflies eat the nectar that is in flowers by sucking it out with their tongues.   Butterflies have been around ever since the Cretaceous era, and they are also called Lepidoptera.   They can gracefully flutter around, and they are born as caterpillars.   The caterpillars soon go into cocoons, and when they come out of their cocoon, they are a stunning butterfly!   There are hundreds of different butterflies, and every single one of them has an extremely breathtaking color or set of colors.   Butterflies are very interesting insects, and they are as beautiful and stunning as a sunset.
