A family law lawyer must meet certain educational requirements. The basic requirements are to complete seven years of college after graduating high school. Those seven years consist of a bachelor’s degree (four years) and a Juris Doctorate degree (three years). The minimum is a bachelor degree, plus passing the bar exam. The more a lawyer knows about the field he or she is entering, the higher in rank he or she will be, and the higher he or she will be paid. A family law lawyer earns up to $100,000 or more a year. It is common for lawyers to work fifty or more hours a week, though. A median salary for a lawyer ranges from $57,594 to $115,545, depending on experience. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “the growth for the career field of family law is expected to increase by 11 percent. By 2016, the competition for top positions will be fierce. Competition for job openings should continue to be keen, however, because of the growth in position and the large number of alumni graduating from law school each year.” (2007)   Employment in this position are prospected to highly rise at a fast pace rate.
Common-law marriage is a genre of marriage recognized by several states where two people are not married, such as living together for a specified period of time (Cheeseman & Goldman, 2008). In reality, they not only live together, they also hold themselves out to the public as man and wife. “Marriage is a legal union between a male and female that contains certain duties and rights upon the spouses.” (2008)   Usually, when a man and woman love each other enough, they put their responsibilities in front of them and get married.
