It is common knowledge that fast food is bad for your health. This being the case, why is it so popular? There is always a fast food resturaunt within earshot. Advertisements are on every channel. Arguibily, it does taste pretty good. But what else attracts all that business, despite the known health risks? The popularity of fast food restaurants increases steadily over time because they're inexpensive, convenient, and serve food quickly.

In today's economy, people will try to find any way possible to save money, especially recent high school graduates and college students who are in debt. Many have moved out on their own and have little money to buy healthy food with after paying for numerous bills. With food costs on the rise, an easy alternative is fast food. Competition and lessening business due to tough economic times causes them to lower the prices, and generate business with great deals. Bruce Horovitz, a USA Today journalist speculates,
"As the economy continues to tank and unemployment in the core 18- to 24-year-old target hovers near 20%, some of the biggest names in fast food -- from Pizza Hut to Subway to Taco Bell-- are back with eye-popping deals" (Horovitz).
This is a trend that will more than likely continue. Why eat elsewhere when you can spend two dollars on a quick and decent meal? Gordon-Larsen P also noticed a trend while conducting his research on the fast food industry. "A 20% increase in the price of soda was associated with a decrease of 0.25 visits to a fast food restaurant per week" (Gordon-Larsen). This is why the fast food companies keep their prices low.
