Fibs and Fables
Fairytales has always been an effective motivation for my writing, particularly during my life struggles. It goes back to my love and wonder towards fairytales and myths. Reading folktales about children who were going through many hardships with my life life, for example “Hansel and Gretel”, always came into my thoughts whenever I had been hurt or treated poorly. Events similar to the tales kept leading me to write short stories with the folktale element, whether they were more modern or fantasy in plot.
When I was very young I had a friend who just lived up the street from my parent’s house. Whenever we had made a plan to get together I would always be afraid of going up to her house. This was because of a certain dog that was always outside of the house a few doors down from my friends’ home. The dog always had a tendency to bark and growl at me. This particular occurrence always reminded me of the story “David and Goliath”. This would lead me to write up a similar story merging elements of “Little Red Riding Hood” in it as well. It allowed myself to gather the courage to not be afraid.   Another point in my life that is a good example of when writing helped me as when I was 13 when my parent saw it fit to take me out of the public schools eyes and in the home schooling environment where they were able to keep an eye on me and my “behavior”. It was a endless depressing time where I felt very sheltered from the outside world. I began to wonder how “Rapunzel” felt having been locked in a tall tower all her life until prince charming came and rescued her. I wrote how I wish that would happen to me. I was waiting for my prince. Having been able to write gave me time to think about my future what I would do with my life when I was free from my prison of sorts. I constantly see and remember stories that I wrote during many strange, and personal points in my life. I know now that it is because these stories have touched me on...
