Athens-Clarke County, Georgia is a unified city-county in the northeastern part of the state. Athens-Clarke County is the smallest county, but it is the 5th largest city in the state of Georgia by population. Athens is home to the University of Georgia, which is the oldest and the largest of the state’s institutions of higher learning (Athens, Georgia, Wikipedia.com). University of Georgia is the first state-charted university in the United States. With the University of Georgia being here, it brings a lot of diversity, culture, music, art scene, and intellectual environment. I like Athens because of its diversity. My view on diversity is positive because you are able to know people from different parts of the county and even the world. Diversity makes the city different from the others because you are able to experience the customs, traditions, and experiences living in here. Of course there are people who are racist and prejudice of others, but most of the people in Athens are very accepting. It doesn’t matter what color of your skin is, your gender, or your sexual orientation; the people of Athens accept who you are.

  Since Athens is a college town, the residents come from all around the world; they practice different religions, and eat different types of foods. In Athens, you can drive around and see nontraditional American foods, and retail stores. If you drive in my neighborhood, you will notice the diversity of the community. We have Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, Whites, and other races living in my community. With the diversity, you will see the cultures that they bring to the community.
