Part I

For me, bisci was all about finding myself. Everything we did in class was to either learn more about myself of learn about the everyday things that distract me from finding myself. Bisci brought my attention to habits that I have picked up in my everyday life and it brought my attention to the longterm affects of these habits, or “conditionings”. For example, I move very fast and try and do everything and I get stressed and overwhelmed very easily. I have always had a drive to be successful in everything I do and I have a tiny attention span so I try and do everything.
Bisci brought my attention to my breathing, pace, and lack of reflection. I move fast and think fast and in the grand scheme of things, forget to look around and relax. This course has shown me that there is so much more to life than just the material things or the titles of our actions. It’s not worth being super successful if you aren’t happy, or you can’t even remember how you got there or why you were where you are. Close friends are way more important than having a lot of friends. Walking fast to class gets you there on time; but if you leave even 5 minutes earlier and walk slow then the walk itself is worthwhile. Everything that we do in life should be an experience. Simply going through the motions is not beneficial or allowing us to learn anything. I believe that being a zombie is a waste of time. We only have one life to live and I think we should make the best of it. I have learned that “making the best of it” does not mean “doing” as much as it means “being”. We should make the best of life by enjoying every second of it, not by cramming in activities.
What I learned about the environment was similar to what I learned about myself. Bisci taught me that we affect the environment directly, and no one can help the environment except us. We have picked up bad habits like littering, long showers, leaving lights on, not...
