I was never really too fond of English and literature classes. I always liked math and science more. My older brother Jon is just about the complete opposite. He especially loved reading. In middle school he used to read at least one book a week. I don’t know why, but for some reason I could never just take the time to sit down and read a book. The only time I ever read anything was if it was for school and even then I usually just skimmed through whatever I was reading. I didn’t really pay too much attention to detail, just the main points; things like names, dates, places, whatever seemed important. I would just treat stories and books like they were more along the lines of informational essays. I never really got into the story at all. My mom kept buying me books, trying to get me more interested in reading. She would always tell me how important it is to read. She always said it doesn’t matter what you’re reading as long as you’re reading something. I just didn’t see the benefit.
My mom used to read the bible to me and my brother every night. I used to try and play everything she read in my mind like a movie. I used wonder why everyone didn’t just make movies instead writing books. A picture is worth a thousand words right? Anyway by the time I was seven we had gone through the bible a good couple of times. I was getting tired of hearing the same book every night. When I told my mom to change it up a bit, she asked me what I wanted her to read. I told her anything as long as it’s something different. She went online and found the perfect book. Well, set of books anyway. She ordered the Chronicles of Narnia. When the books arrived she started reading the first book that night. It was an odd story. Like nothing I had ever heard before. It was slow at first, but it really started picking up. I loved how unpredictable the story was. It got to the point where I was begging my mom to read just a few more pages before bed. I...
