Organizations often evaluate their workforce needs and personnel challenges to make appropriate adjustments. The healthcare industry is a perfect example of how hospitals in California have to make critical adjustments to meet the current demands for registered nurses. Proactive hospitals have implemented short-term and long-term strategies to increase the number of registered nurses who are willing to develop nursing skills. Leading hospitals understand the importance that nursing staff and supporting clinical staff play in maintaining a safe and productive organization. Innovative hospitals have taken this opportunity to evaluate other employee group’s development needs such as accountants, billers, facility engineers, environmental techs, and office mangers, to name a few. This paper will describe how Mission Hospital has shaped me to be an efficient manager and will outline current professional skills, abilities, and specific training. The essay will also cover a five-year personal career development plan to increase opportunities for promotions, career growth, and potential barriers.
Career Goals and Skills/Abilities
Mission Hospital and Camino Health Center have provided me with endless training opportunities to enhance my work skills; however, I never used to consider long-term professional goals. For the most part I would think of my immediate challenges or limitations to carry out a job function. Long-term goals or strategies to qualify for advancements were not often contemplated. However, I was always willing to learn a new job function or eager to undertake a new task.
