Short essay: Was the French Revolution worth it?
In my opinion I think the French Revolution was worth it. The reasons being that France was wretchedly poor, and suffering from scarcity of food at first; after the Revolution everything changed. After the Revolution for the first time in centuries the peasants ate their fill, and dared to speak out. France became a country of well to do peasants, and her enemies discovered that in spite of all the bloodshed and losses, France was still the riches nation in Europe (Kropotkin 236-237). During the Reign of Terror of the Bourbon they dared not to touch the lands, and they old regime could not be re-established, that was a big gained by making the Revolution. The blood they shed was shed for humanity the sufferings they endured were borne for the entire human race; their struggles the ideas they gave to the world the shock of those ideas are all included in the heritage of mankind (Kropotkin242). It abolished serfdom and absolutism in France. It was horrible that so many people had to die but many people were willing to die and had signed up for this. It wasn't the people's fault that so many people had died during things like the terror. They actually learned from their mistakes and finally killed Robespierre who was the one who had ordered all of these people to the guillotine. Another thing that they had been trying to change was the representation in the national assembly. The 3rd estate was 97% of the population and since the clergy and nobility always sided together they were oppressed. All of those people who took the tennis court oath meant what they had said in they weren't going to stop until they got some better representation. The signing of the rights of man and citizen didn't help them at all the war had already started and there was nothing to stop people who got the power they longed for. Bastille Day is significant to the country of France because that started the most significant revolution ever....
