Modernization in the United States has evolved from the ranches and farm land into an urbanized manufacturing nation that has become so economically challenged; society has become desperate for change. We are all aware of the degrading treatment African Americans had to endure hundreds of years ago as they were sold as slaves to the highest bidder. Look at us now, today we have the honor to announce, President Barack H. Obama, The first African American to be elected to the highest position in the world, United States President, proving, modernization is the constant advancement of change, with the ability to affect an entire world.
In a world where nothing stays the same for too long, modernization is the tool that continues to shape and mold today’s society. Theorists Max Weber introduced rationalization to society by showing them that the traditional worldview can be changed through rational thinking. To traditional people, “truth†is roughly the same as “what has always been. To modern people, by contrast, truth is the result of rational calculation†(Social Change- Max Weber- Pg.458). In preindustrial societies, tradition acts as a constant brake on social change. Because they value efficiency and have little reverence for the past, modern people will adopt whatever social patterns allow them to achieve their goals. (Social Change- Max Weber- Pg.458)
Modernization is likely to continue in the U. S. since modernization was brought on by the industrialization, during a time when society has grown and moved forward with progress. Modernization and progress go together in reference to the growth of our country. The moment modernization embraces a country, it will hold on forever and will never let go. “People with knowledge thrust for more. The more a person knows, the more they want to know, so yes modernization is here to stay.†(Tyler-2006)
