1) Curator Marine Musa Delaney defines organic as something that is derived from living things, or composed of matter that is either animal or vegetable. Inorganic refers to something which is composed of matter that is not animal or vegetable, and is usually derived from minerals and other non-living things.
In art, organic elements visually represent curvilinear and bio-morphic forms. Inorganic elements more often represent straight edged, architectonic forms.
2) In Elizabeth Smith Jacobs’ art, she uses organic objects such as bones, feathers, shells, and teeth. Some of the inorganic objects in which she uses include nails, keys, rocks, wood, buttons, and coins.
3) “My art is a series of work that explores human emotions...emotions are expressed by the use of colors and textures”.
In Arlen Absatz’s art entitled “Inside Out”, many different colors and textures can be seen. Her art can sort of express different emotions by what colors are being used and how textured the surface is. “Inside Out” uses many lighter shades of color and gives off more of a lively, happier feeling as compared to some of her other works which contain more dark colors. Also, the lines which are formed from the overlapping paper are straighter and not as rugged as some of her other work, giving off a cleaner, more precise appearance as opposed to some other works which contain jagged and crooked lines.
4) In Jennifer Scott’s “Cutaways and Counterpane” quilting plays a major role in the shaping of this piece. Quilting needles can be seen actually stuck into the surface of the canvas. Rather than using one kind of fabric, she incorporates a variety of fabrics to give it a more diverse feel.
5) One of Peter Jacobs’ collages seems to be of a political climate. Soldiers can be seen in the very front of the collage, while towards the rear, there seems to be a riot going on with police trying to break up the crowd. In the middle there are military kevlar helmets...
